Panaji, Aug 14: The Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum of the electricity department is being handled by only one member. This has caused complaints regarding the bills to remain unresolved.

The fall of the forum resulted when the chairperson, DG Deshpande quit the office back in July, 2018. To restore the forum, Retd Judge Desmond D'Costa is likely to be appointed as the chaiperson.

The forum was established in the year 2011, with a view to provide relief to those complaints which deal with inadequacy of electricity bill, imperfection in services of the electricity department; including safety of distribution system and which can also endanger life and property.

Over the past few months, the forum has become non-functional due to lack of quorum. According to the department, inadequate bills of closed houses have been 'adjourned sine die as a result of lack of quorum.' Meanwhile, power minister, Nilesh Cabral has blamed JERC's for the delay in resolving the grievances.
