Udupi, Aug 13: The water in Arabian Sea in the district has turned into black colour now. The waves that are lashing the shores are pitch black in colour.

The heavy downpour that the twin districts witnessed in the past few days has turned the sea into black. When it rains heavily, the sea gets rough. As the length and ferocity of the waves increase, the water gets mixed up with the sand, the sea turns into black. The backwater area where the water from the rivers meets the sea is completely stirred up.

The black sea view of the Arabian Sea is more visible in areas of Padukere, Kodi Bengre, Gangolli and Padubidri of the district. If anyone wants to feel the intensity and ferocity of the sea, this is the time to visit the Arabian Sea shore.

Generally, the water of the sea is clear blue. However, due to the recent downpour in the plateau of Western Ghats and also the coastal districts, the amount of water from the river that is flowing into the sea has increased many folds. This water from the rivers, after heavy rain, brings mud, decomposed leaves, trees, minerals and salinity with it. When the muddy brown water from the rivers, mixes with the salt water of the sea, the colour of the sea water turns into black.

Though the beach goers will not be allowed to venture into water now, this is the right time to see the sea at its fiercest.
