Mangaluru: Marked reduction in rainfall - Orange alert in DK, schools reopen

Mangaluru, Aug 13: The furiousness of rain which had wreaked havoc in the twin-districts since the last several days has considerably died down. As the meteorological department predicted that there is possibility of rain on Tuesday August 13, the administration of Dakshina Kannada (DK) has issued orange alert. 

On Monday, the district experienced sporadic rainfall. During the day, intermittent rains were experienced in the city while the rainfall was heavy at night. Moodbidri got normal rainfall in the evening while Bantwal and Beltangady the situation was much better. Heavy rain with strong wind was experienced at Puttur at night. 

A number of places in Udupi district got good rainfall on Monday. Places like Kundapur, Kollur, Brahmavar, Padubidri and Belman got good rain. Udupi had sunny weather till afternoon followed by rain. At night there was good rain for half an hour. 

Rainfall was less in Kasargod district, Byndoor, Kaiko in Ullal, HIlleria Nagar, Mukkacheri etc. As such, the sea has also relatively calmed down. 

Schools and colleges which had five days of holiday since Wednesday on account of rain would be open from today, both the district administrations have informed.
