Panaji, Jul 21: Goa Toursim Development Corporation (GTDC) will soon be launching a campaign to eliminate the use of plastic. In a matter of three months, GTDC will work towards minimization of plastic across the state, starting from its headquarters.

This step is undertaken to ban the use of every kind of plastic items, in order to preserve the environment and promote sustainable development in the tourism sector. In a study it was found that the 20 per cent of plastic resources which have been polluting the oceans were majorly through the contribution of tourism industry.

The chairman of GTDC, Dayanand Sopte stated that they would consider involving other tourism stakeholders and partners in the hospitality sector to be part of the campaign.

The GTDC meetings will henceforth use paper or glass cups to serve tea, coffee and water.
