Hundreds pay homage to Dikshit at Congress HQ


New Delhi, Jul 21 (IANS): Hundreds paid homage on Sunday to veteran Congress leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit as her mortal remains were taken from her residence to the party headquarters.

According to a Congress official, the cremation will take place at Nigambodh Ghat in the afternoon. The body will be taken out in a procession.

Dikshit, who was the Congress President in Delhi when she died, suffered cardiac arrest and passed away on Saturday.

Her mortal remains were kept at her residence in Nizamuddin in south Delhi from Saturday evening until Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, veteran BJP leaders L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited her residence to pay tributes to the three-time Chief Minister of Delhi.

The Delhi government has announced a two-day mourning and a state funeral for Dikshit.
