Udupi, Jul 20: In a rare treatment, KMC Hospital, Manipal has identified traces of mercury in the body of a person and administered effective medicine to him. Such instances are said to be very rare.

An Indian resident had gone to Australia for work. The symptoms of the illness surfaced in him when he returned from a short visit there. Mercury that had entered his system without his knowledge caused problems for him as the days passed by. He visited several hospitals but to no avail. His sickness had already become worse.

Therefore, he decided to visit KMC Hospital Manipal on his friend’s advice. He contacted Dr Vasudev Acharya of KMC Hospital who examined the patient comprehensively. He suspected traces of mercury in his blood on the basis of laboratory reports. His suspicions were confirmed after holding discussions with the heads of the department of forensic medicine and concluded that mercury in the body was the only cause of illness.

The medicine for the illness was not easily available. It was imported from Thailand. The sick person was completely cured after administering it to him and travelled back to his hometown.
