Mangaluru, Jul 19: As many as 19 young men from the district who had gone to Kuwait with dreams of earning lucrative salaries for achieving better standard of living for their families and to build a better future for themselves, and whose dreams were shattered once they landed in Kuwait, reached the city on Thursday July 19 morning by bus. 

They were among several young men including 42 from here who were sent to Kuwait by an employment agency. Their tale of woes began to unfold the moment they touched down at Kuwait. Their visa cancellations and returning of passports were held up and they were deprived of food and shelter. With the support of NRIs living in Kuwait, Indian embassy and also from here, they survived the ordeal and reached their motherland. 

They had travelled to Mumbai from Kuwait yesterday by flight. 

One more young man from the group had reached city last week.

The youths thanked Mohandas Kamath, Mangaluru-based resident at Kuwait who played a major role in their rescue, The Indian Engineers’ Association of Kuwait, and Sibi U S, second secretary (Labour), Indian Embassy, Kuwait, Raj Bhandary, Madhav Nayak, Vijay Fernandes for legal support, and Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru South, for moral support. They also expressed their gratitude to Daijiworld Media which brought to light the incident, the press fraternity of Mangaluru and social media friends for their media assistance.
