Bantwal, July 18: A mother and her daughter who were inside an ambulance died and three others suffered injuries in a tragic accident involving a goods tempo and an ambulance that happened at Neralekatte Parlottu on the night of Tuesday July 16.

Those who lost their lives in the accident were Soorya, Idkidu village resident Parvati (70), and her daughter, Sesamma. Vaman Naika, a patient who was being taken to hospital through the ambulance, and his relatives, Lokayya and Subrahmanya, were injured. The injured are being treated in a hospital at Mangaluru. The ambulance driver however had a providential escape.

Patient Vaman Naika was being ferried for dialysis by Rotaract Charitable Trust ambulance from Mahaveera Hospital, Puttur to Mangaluru when a goods tempo on its way to Puttur collided with the ambulance at Parlottu.

While Parvati who was seriously injured died on the way to the hospital, Sesamma succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Bantwal police circle inspector, T D Nagaraj, and Vittal sub-inspector, Yellappa, visited the spot and began investigations. A case on the basis of complaint filed by ambulance driver, Shashikant, was registered in Vittal police station.

The goods tempo which caused the accident had gone ahead without stopping at the accident spot. Local people stopped it near Kukkarabettu road bend and handed it over to the police.
