UAE to give visa-on-arrival to Indian passport holders

Dubai, Jul 17 (IANS): For those with family and friends back home in India, visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could be a hassle free process if they are already residency visa holders of the UK or the European Union.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai has issued a reminder to residents that may wish to bring family members and friends on a visit to the UAE, the Gulf News reported.

A video, uploaded on the GDRFA's social networking sites earlier this week, says: "Indian citizens holding normal passports with a residence visa from the UK and European Union countries can take an entry permit on all UAE entry points, provided the validity of the residence visa issues by the UK or European union is not less than six months."

Indian passengers can then proceed to the Marhaba service counter to get their entry permit for a fee of Dh100 and Dh20 service charges, and continue on to the passport control.

The maximum period to stay in the UAE is 14 days and can be extended once for a renewal fee of Dh250 and Dh20 service fee is paid.

Once the extension is made, travellers can stay for an additional 28 days.

    Dubai is going through the worst recession right now. Better to stay in Mangalore than go there and waste your money looking for a job. People are leaving Dubai because of their rascist policies. A plumber from England becomes a plumbing engineer in Dubai but an Engineer from India or any Asian country becomes a plumber there.

    Those who already left with whatever savings they made and placed it in FD, are the luckier lot. If people are still procrastinating their departure anticipating an improvement, its the children who may suffer because coming back you must take up Kannada as compulsory subject for primary education in Karnataka even if they are in CBSE.

    I find this visa fee is bit too much for a stay of only 15days.what about travellers of transit passengers?Should they too pay this amount?Suppose one decides to break their travel for a day or two?(being a EU passholder)

    I think I should use this facility , go a month and try for job. Any job will do . It will be better than staying in India under current conditions. With major companies going bankrupt and highest rate of unemployment in 45 years

    Getting UK or Schengen visa is much more difficult than any middle-East country. And anybody with sane mind who is currently residing in UK/EU would bother visiting UAE other than for transiting while travelling on Emirates. No thanks.

    Eminef mangalore,Find it strange what you are saying.Why should you go to a country under any circumstances and to find a job there?I can advice you better do any job in your own country ,than be their slave and lower down yourself to them.Not all ,but some .One day you may be like the one who are at present facing.-I dont think you are a that illiterate. Be a Raja in own country than a nobody there.

    Eminef deserves to be deported. Nobody dares to give employment to tourist visa holders because he will have to shut shop immediately. Moreover, Gulf is throwing out Indians left right and centre.

    All GCC countries' expatriates having residence visa on their Passport, can visit any of the GCC member country. I have visited Kuwait and Bahrain while I was on employment visa of one of another GCC country. You must mention this while booking your ticket so that 'visa on arrival' term is entered in your reservation and the immigration lets you pass through.

    One condition is that the profession in the visa must be executive level, not labur or that kind.

    I know of visa on arrival by road for those holding GCC residency visa. Even I had been to one of the country by road. Are you sure it’s possible by air?

    Expatriates in GCC countries can visit another member GCC country only after obtaining visitor's visa of the country to be visited. They cannot visit without visa unlike European Union. Only the GCC citizens are entitled to visa free travel among member states.

    Saudi borders both Kuwait & Bahrain. But it’s difficult if not impossible for an expatriate that too woman to travel to a neighboring country. There are lots of rules especially for women (even for nationals) like wearing burqa, exit pass, traveling with custodian & pass to cross from one state of Saudi to the next.
