Bengaluru, Jul 17: The chief minister has issued an order, as per which the recommendations made by a committee led by Raghavendra Auradkar as regards revision of pay, discrimination in promotions and other demands have been implemented.

Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, has already signed the report and official order will be out soon. There are, however, certain modifications to the original report. The government has agreed for a 12.5 percent hike in the salaries of police personnel instead of 30 percent recommended by the committee. The adoption of this report will result in additional financial burden of Rs 630 crore on the government, and to ease this burden, the government has affected certain changes.

The revision will come into effect from August 1 this year. The police, in addition to getting revised salary, will also get certain additional facilities. Retired police personnel too will get a bonanza.

The demand for upward revision of salaries of police personnel had gained momentum in 2016 when Siddaramaiah was the chief minister. The government had formed a committee led by the then additional director general of police, Raghavendra Auradkar, to look into the issues and make recommendations. The committee, which compared salary and other perquisites prevalent in other states for the police, had recommended 30 percent hike in pay. The report, which was submitted to the home department, was not implemented. Thereafter, home minister M B Patil had come in support of implementing the report. Therefore, the chief minister had given his assent to the recommendations.

The police have got this happy news in the midst of political crisis in the state, the revision of pay and doing away with discrimination in promotions were important demands of the police department, and the effort made by the government to address them has come for appreciation.

This is a right thing to do. Police force deserves it. Govt. should also provide them with decent housing, free higher education for their children and small piece of land to build their own house. They are doing stressful job and have no rights to go on strike demanding more benefits. Govt. should understand and increase their pay and benefits from time to time.

The pay hike is not high when compared to the low salary being paid to the policemen and the high cost of living. But something is better than nothing.

yes gimbala is needed as they are given the lowest salary.. all sitting in AC room and working are paid thousands an lakhs and these constables who work 32 hrs sometimes are given very less pay.. During rainy seasons they have to roam around without sleep all night... and if politicians come these people have to burn in hot sun... even they and their family deserves luxury and their kids deserve good schools.. in order to have a good life they are forced to take Gimbals.... Every job is difficult.. these police constables are treated like dogs by their superiors.. no holidays, no fun... so at least if they are given good salary with other facilities.. they will have job satisfaction
