Kundapur, Jul 15: A G Kodgi, a resident of Amasebailu of the taluk and Bijal Brahmabhat of Housing service trust for women of Ahmedabad are selected for the National Suryamitra award of 2018-19 given by Selco.
The awards were given to Kodgi and Brahmabhat on Saturday, July 13 at the annual function of the company that was held at Hotel Grand Maurya of Mysuru.

Progressive agriculturist, thinker and political leader, A G Kodgi founded the Amasebailu charitable trust in 2008 with the intention of all round development of the Amasebailu village. Due to his Herculean effort he has converted the whole village of Amasebailu as a solar village and a model for self-reliant in fuel.

Bijal Brahmabhat has given solutions in the field of community development, especially in slums of urban areas, like building a house at low cost, model of light system, solar fans, women empowerment, training in entrepreneurship, water and cleanliness.
Dr Harish Hande, who presided over the function said that there is an immediate need of serious thinking to be done in changing poverty and changing of environment.

Vishweshwara Bhat, chief editor of Vishwavani daily newspaper stressed on the importance of solar in today’s world.
Director of Selco Thomas Pulenkav, trustee Srinivas, COO Mohan Bhaskar Hegde, general manager Jagadish Pai, officers and staff of Selco and representatives of various organizations were present on the occasion.
