Beltangady: Illegal cattle trafficking - Seven arrested, two vehicles, 17 cattle confiscated

Beltangady, Jul 14: Police intercepted two vehicles transporting cattle illegally from Kolapur in Maharashtra to Kasargod in Kerala, on Saturday morning at Sabarabail near here. They were successful in arresting seven people in this regard and manage to confiscate one container truck, one Alto car and 17 cattle.
 
Among the arrested, police nabbed the container driver Hyder, resident of Venoor, and his accomplices, Abdul Rahiman, resident of Alambady in Kasargod; Babu, a resident of Padre; Manje Gowda of Hassan origin; Mohammed Mustafa, a resident of Alambady in Kasargod and the driver of the Alto car Mohammed Akbar. 
 
The police acted against this gang after receiving information regarding the gang being involved in cattle trafficking. They found the Alto car was escorting the container truck at a distance of two km from the truck.
 
 
The cattle in Kolapur is actually available at an affordable price, but through these means they are brought to Kasaragod with the intention of selling them for meat and for twice the rate. The accused had already transported two trips of cattle a few days ago and this time around it was their third trip as per the police. The value of the confiscated vehicles and cattle is said to be over Rs 15 lac.
 
Police had caught a vehicle and arrested people, two days ago at Sastan toll gate. The accused, were aware of this and therefore, changed their route and planned to transport the cattle from Chikkamagalur to Kasargod via Beltangady.
 
The confiscated cattle, consisted of 16 bulls and a cow, they were tied inside the compound of Beltangady police station. A case in this regard has been registered with the Beltangady police station.
