MLA Dr Bharath Shetty threatens of protest if toll is collected from local vehicles at Suratkal

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 13: "I vehemently oppose the collection of toll from the local vehicles saying that the toll gate contractor is incurring losses. Public is not responsible for the loss of the toll gate contractor. If toll is collected from local vehicles, BJP will hold fierce protest," said MLA of Mangaluru North constituency Dr Bharath Shetty.

Dr Bharath Shetty further said, "In order to collect toll under Suratkal city corporation limits, the name of the road is changed to New Mangaluru Port Road. By this, toll is being collected under the law of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Now, collecting toll cancelling the existing exemption, will not be tolerated. I oppose this strongly. The toll company has to immediately withdraw this decision."

"The deputy commissioner of the district has to bring the issue of locals and law to the notice of state and central officials. If toll is collected using police force, the north unit of BJP will stage fierce protest under my leadership," concluded Dr Bharath Shetty.

These days BJP thinks every problem can be resolved with 'Jai Shri Ram' and protest. Perhaps India is the only nation paying the toll for the incomplete road with substandard.

There is no logic applied consturcting the toll gate in the first place. How one calculated the distance between two toll gate is also unknown. No emergency by lane in the entire stretch of the road. No night truck halts, no proper signage, no emergency medical facility, no recovery facility, the poor lit road and so on.

Why would travelers need to be charged for substandard services?

I wonder why this issue of toll collection very frequently from the local vehicles at Suratkal Toll gate.In the first place, this particular toll gate is illegal because within 15-20 Kms there are two toll gates one at Hejmadi and another is at Suratkal.Collection of toll from this toll gate is being continued for the last few years in spite of local's protests. Our MP was telling this toll gate will be closed and merged with Hejmadi. But collection of toll is being continued, refurbishment, redecoration, laying of interlocks etc are also being held simultaneously.Ridicule it is.Is it because just to fool the public.Toll is being collected in the pretext of incurring loses by the contractor.People are not held responsible for the loss incurred by the contractor. He should go and ask the concerned department, authorities who awarded him the contract. Not to loot by the people. It is unfortunate.Along with MLA D.Bharath Shetty, people of the his constituency will always be there and support in his fight against this evil practice.MP should interfere in this particular case and put an end for this perennial problem for ever in the best interest of local vehicle owner in particular and people of the area in general.Don't twist the tongue for every now and then and put the public in trouble or face the consequences.

The road from Mangalore to the Suratkal Toll gate is riddled with pot holes , wonder why toll has to be collected for such substandard work. And why don’t Udupi registered vehicles have to pay at Hejmadi toll gate if Ks 19 have to Pay at Suratkal !!!!. That too for an illegal toll gate at Suratkal. Petrol has been increased by 2 Rs , how much more does the govt want to squeeze out of the tax payer????

Toll or excise for goods on highways should be levied at points of crossing districts and not at every 15 or 20 Km. which make no sense other than minting money.

Time pass! Their own people, NH under central govt! Toll collection also their own people! What is he talking? I am waiting some one will produce actual facts! What is the cost of road? How many year toll will be collected? How much times of actual cost will be collected for unfinished poor quality road? Where is transparency??
Lean about unity from Belman road! Did they allow toll? They are chased away! Lack of unity among mass is major problem!
Can anyone question- what about life tax on vehicle?? Is it not governments responsibility to provide good road???

You are absolutely right. This is nothing but double taxation to vehicle owners and that too two toll gates operating within the vicinity of 15 Kms distance.
