Bengaluru: Changing political situation - BJP-JD (S) to get into alliance again?

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 12: A sudden and unforeseen development has taken place in the state politics. The meeting of close aide of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and minister Sa Ra Mahesh's with BJP leaders on the night of Thursday has made the whole political situation of Karnataka take a new and curious turn.

Sa Ra Mahesh had discussion with BJP state-in-charge Muralidhar Rao and former DCM K S Eshwarappa at the Kumara Kripa Guest House in the city. Some sources believe that If BJP wishes, a group of JD (S) will support them in forming the government. And Mahesh has kept options of H D Kumaraswamy continuing as CM with a DCM of BJP or else someone from BJP becoming the CM of the state and H D Revanna becoming the DCM with Kumaraswamy becoming the central minister.

Sa Ra Mahesh

Rumours are also making rounds that a group of JD(S) will support BJP from outside. However, it is also heard in political circles that CM Kumaraswamy and JD(S) supremo H D Devegowda have no information with regards to this development. It is learnt that a group of JD(S) MLAs had come to this decision after discussing the same with Sa Ra Mahesh.

Sa Ra Mahesh did agree that he has met the BJP leaders. However, he gave an evading answer saying that he had gone to the guest house to take rest and met the BJP leaders there.

BJP sources, however, are not in favour of this proposal. The sources confirm that Sa Ra Mahesh has indeed forwarded a proposal for the formation of BJP government with support from JD(S). However, BJP leaders have said that they have gone too far now. It is difficult to go for such an arrangement at this point of time. Still this will be discussed with the top party leaders. In addition, some BJP leaders are of the opinion that this alliance may not work as state party chief Yeddyurappa is not in good terms with J (S).

The dissident rebels have been offered more than Rs100 crores each with ministerial birth if BJP forms the government.
If BJP still fails and reelection is imminent the party is most likely in favor of President rule to align the Karnataka elections with Governor.
The BJP doesn't want to get smeared in 'Operation Kamala' allegation when the party is comfortable won 25 Lok Sabha seats out of 28.
It is a fact that JD(S) has closely worked with BJP fielding weak candidates to defeat the strong Congress leaders including former CM Sidarmaiah in his own constituency in the last assembly elections.
Most likely BJP wants to come back with the absolute majority rather than horse trading. But the whole opposition is against EVM now wants ballot box to back.
The equation may change if EVM remains with voters slip is introduced.
