10 Goa MLAs split from Congres to merge with BJP

Panaji, Jul 10 (IANS): Ten Congress MLAs out of 15 have split from the Congress and are going to merge with the BJP later tonight, Congress MLA Isidore Fernandes told reporters on Wednesday.

"10 Congress MLAs are splitting from the Congress and joining the BJP tonight," Fernandes said. Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar is the leader of the group which has split from the Congress, Fernandes said.

"We are going to meet the Speaker now. Once we step out, we would formally announce what has happened," said Deputy Speaker of the state assembly Michael Lobo, who led the group of rebel Congress MLAs to Speaker Rajesh Patnekar's office in the assembly premises.

The 10 Congress MLAs who are part of the rebel group are Chandrakant Kavlekar, Isidore Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Jennifer and Atanasio Monserrate, Antonio Fernandes, Nilakanth Halarnkar, Clafacio Dias and Wilfred D'Sa.

The development brings down the legislative strength of the Congress to a paltry five MLAs. It includes Digambar Kamat, Luzinho Faleiro, Ravi Naik, Pratapsingh Rane, all of whom have served as Chief MInister and MLA Aliexo Reginaldo.

For 2019 Lok Sabha elections government has spent Rs.60,000 crores. If the 'Operation Kamala' is the democracy and Election commission of India is Puppet of the ruling party do India need elections?

Any elected candidate crossing over from the parent party which he contested is against the voters' mandate. The Goa assemly resembles now what Arunachal Pradesh defection of the Congress and later forming a new party which then became ruling BJP without a ballot.

The opposition should file PIL in the Supreme Court and end to this defection regardless of any parties. If buying elected MLA's is a democracy for the BJP, then there is no point of spending taxpayers money in elections otherwise it can be used for the welfare of the Indian citizens.

Today what India needs is urgent hearing of 'People's Amendment Act, 1952 to be amended to stop this defection using strong 'Anti- Defection law'.

I am glad that BJP now became 'Congress' instead of 'Congress Mukth Bharath' ending Rashtriya swayamsevak Sangh hold.

But BJP instead of 'One nation, one election', now trying its best 'One nation, one party', in desperate to increase its tally in the Rajya Sabha to pass all the controversial bills into law.

RIP Parrikar & BJP. Person like Monserate who recently defeated BJP candidate in the Parrikar constituency is also member of the group. Recently he was fighting against casinos & now he will support casinos. What a transformation. Parrikars son already raised his voice. But he will be silenced as Parrikar is dead & gone

This is because democracy is lost its value. It's worked for one generation. The great sacrifice of the great leaders have no relvence. Politics is a gambling now. There is no ethics or value.itis shame to the voters. A strong opposition is required for success of democracy.

El En Tea, you guys will never learn . There is a big leadership issue plaguing the Congress and the party looks directionless with not being able to appoint a President for more than a month now. Resignations are flying within the Congress and factional war between the veteran Congress leaders and the young Congress leaders is out in the open be it the open squabble between Sachin Pilot and Gehlot in Rajasthan or Scindia vrs Kamal Nath in MP, Milind Deora vrs Sanjay Nirupam in Mumbai, Siddharamaiah vrs Parameshwara in Karnataka. The effects of this is being seen everywhere. This is not poaching.

In a democracy opposition plays a very constructive role. In the absence of a strong opposition , the ruling party becomes a tyrant, which is a threat to the Constitution and fundamental rights. If there is no one to check the government what can be the fate of our Democracy, since press is already gagged and all the vital pillars of govt machinery are anyway the puppets of the ruling party. The present scenario is the outcome of selfish and people with criminal background entering into politics. AAP tried its best, but is a lone fighter in front of a colossus. If our representatives have to change the party after winning the election, why do we need an election at all? Hope something best comes out of all this mess that would do good to the Nation.
