Bengaluru: Anju Bobby George denies reports of joining BJP

Bengaluru, Jul 8: The statement from former athlete Anju Bobby George that she did not join BJP has embarrassed the state leadership of that party including president B S Yeddyurappa.

Her denial came within a few days of reports appeared in media that she joined BJP. A photo of Anju holding the BJP party flag in the presence of Yeddyurappa had gone viral.

Referring to the news, Anju said that she had gone for a programme to meet their family friend, union minister V Muraleedharan. “BJP leaders who saw me standing near the dais and invited me to the dais, handed over BJP flag to me and welcomed me. I have been always into sports and that is my party. I do not need to join another party,” she said.

Muraleedharan also said that there is no need to give any political meaning as Anju met him. Muraleedharan is the only minister from Kerala in the union cabinet. Anju also hails from Kerala and stays in Bengaluru as her husband is customs employee there.
