Mangaluru, Jul 8: District Congress committee staged a protest at DC office in the city on Monday, July 8 against the gang rape on a college student that took place at Puttur.

Addressing the protestors, former MLA Shakuntala Shetty said, "Our country should follow Saudi Arabia model by hanging the culprits, who rape women. Only then, we will be able to control the rape on women and children.” She also demanded action against the culprits of Puttur gang rape.

“20 years ago, a girl named Soumya Bhat was killed by a man. BJP had protested at Puttur condemning the murder. Shobha Karandhlaje had blamed District-in-charge minister U T Khader for the Derlakatte incident where a boy stabbed a girl. Now when a girl is gang raped at Puttur, why she is silent on this issue? BJP are ruling in the central government, we should enforce the law of Saudi Arabia in India where a rape culprit is hanged publicly to give justice to the victims,” added Shakuntala.

The former MLA also said, "We are lucky that there was no minority community member in the group of the accused or else BJP would have taken it as a weapon to spoil peace and harmony of the district.”

President of District Congress committee Harish Kumar, former minister Ramanath Rai, district youth congress president Mithun Rai and others were present.

Forget about your political inclinations . Be fair and stop calling it consensual sex when five people have gang raped one girl. If not there will more similar incidents and your own relatives may one day be affected.

For rape you can call consensual sex.
After lynching you can call them theives and something else. Because you are sure that dead person will not come back and claim innocent.
I remember an article in "India Today, dated March 4, 2018" about two serving state ministers were seen attending a rally organised in support of the accused in the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl from Kathua.
Minister for forest Chaudhary Lal Singh and minister for commerce and industries Chander Prakash Ganga, attended the event organised by Hindu Ekta Manch, an outfit that has been protesting against the arrests in the case.

    Ismail,
What about derlakatte incident whereby couples were forcibly made to do pronographic acts??
Coming to lynching.., stop stealing and trafficking our sacred cows.., rest all will fall in to place.
Nobody comes to violate your spiritual or religious beliefs.., similarly respect our hindu beliefs as well.
When this happens everything will fall into peace.

I do not support any criminals. Whoever he is and whichever community he belongs to, if police take action, I support police. If terrorist of any outfit kill somebody and then put some allegations, it is not acceptable. There is judicial system to punish criminals. Criminals cannot punish criminals.

@Shravan Shetty, Manipal, v have evidence bd & vhp people were robbing cows & blaming other community. 4 us cow is not holy & its meat is eligible to eat as mentioned in our scripture. if your scriptures doesn't allow u to eat cow meat & u your scriptures says cow is holy den don't eat. india is a secular society & lynching, killing of beef eaters is not a sin & not a crime. v r not to believe your scriptures just as u don't believe in our scriptures. stop preaching your ideas & ideology 2 us. robbing is a sin. thrashing a man or raping a cow by rajkumar of u.p in gaushaalas of ayodya is a sin. 4 us eating cattle meat is not a sin.

I don't just blame the government, we all are to be blamed. We all wake up when such incidents happen and once the file closes no one is even concerned about asking why it is closed. If a person stands strong is the case he is threatened and warned, we are all busy saving the culprits rather then finding a permanent solution and end to this incidents, and the other thing that makes me mad is a person who has stood in favor of the case is not given the protection while these culprits are given the protection to save themselves from the frustrated public. its a shame. Make the culprits feel the same pain the girl goes through when she is being raped. Then is when we will all roam freely without fear.

Why congress is on protest even they are in Power. Let them to take stringent action against the culprits. Why Ex MLA quoting Saudi Arabia Law here, if really wanted same Law, who has stopped her to bring private motion in the Vidhana Sauda when she was in power. Congress acted same way in last LS election and lost miserably. Congress wants to play just blame game and don't act to protect real victims. Akka own your responsibility being the ruling party and tell your police to check and stop similar crime in future , then the people may give you chance next time.
