Mysuru: Konkani Christian Association holds ‘Vovio’ competition

Mysuru, Jun 26: Konkani Christian Association (R) Mysuru, organized ‘Vovio’ competition for its members on June 23 at Konkan Bhavan. ‘Vovioes’ are the traditional songs sung at the Konkani Christian ‘Roce’ ceremony and weddings. The competition was aimed to retain and pass on the tradition and culture to the younger generation.

The programme commenced with the celebration of Holy Eucharist followed by Competition’. President Vincent Crasto welcomed the gathering and briefed about the future programmes of the association. Fr Gilbert Aranha, parish priest of Maddur, Mysuru diocese, was honoured at the occasion for being appointed as the secretary of the Asian Bishop Conference.



The competition was well organized and the members participated actively. The aim of the competition was served when many youth participated. Hilda D’ souza and James D’ souza from Mangaluru were the judges. The first prize was won by William George D’ Souza & team, second prize by Vally Vagga & team and the third prize by Victoria D’Costa & team. General secretary John William D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks. Laveena Dsouza, joint secretary of the association compered the programme.
