Vasco: MMC to cut down old trees that pose threat to human lives

Daijiworld Media Network - Vasco (SR)

Vasco, Jun 26: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has started cutting down trees that pose threat to human lives. In the initiative, three old Ashoka trees were axed and the municipality has recognised 20 other such trees on Swantantra path right from St Andrew’s Church to the IOC terminal.

The decision was taken in the wake of an unfortunate incident that happened last week when an Ashoka tree fell on a 41-year-old man and killed him instantly. Another tree fell on Vasco roads on Sunday. Hence the MMC, with the help of officials from Vasco fire station and Vasco electricity department has now geared up for the work of tree-cutting.

MMC said the remaining trees will be cut soon. Meanwhile another tree came down near El-Monte theatre at Desterro Vaddo on Tuesday.
