Over 4.27 lakh people were killed in road accidents from 2013-15


New Delhi, Jun 25 (IANS): Over 4.27 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents in the country from 2013-15. The deaths due to accidents have witnessed a rise in the period.

The information was provided by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in a written reply to Lok Sabha member Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundariya.

A total of 4,27,656 people lost their lives in road accidents in the three year period of 2013-15.

"In 2013, the country witnessed 4,43,001 accidents, in which 1,37,423 people were killed and 4,69 882 were injured.

In 2014, the country saw 4,50,898 road accidents killing 1,41,526 people and injuring 4,77,731.

In 2015, the 4,64,674 resulted in 1,48,707 deaths and 4,82,389 people injured," the minister's reply added.
