Bengaluru: Seven passengers reach boarding gate at KIA without frisking

Bengaluru, Jun 22: Seven passengers at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) reached the boarding gate, without undergoing the mandatory frisking by security personnel.

On June 17, staff members of Indigo Airlines were surprised that four women passengers had reached the boarding gate, with their boarding passes not stamped. They said that security was not present at the frisking booth and hence they directly came to the boarding gate. These passengers were sent to a domestic security holding area and checked and later allowed to board their Pune flight.

Shortly, another group of passengers, two men and one woman boarded a flight to Nagpur without the mandatory frisking. This incident came to the security’s notice much later, after the passengers had reached their destination.

The frisking booth being unmanned is a serious security lapse. Additional Director General (airport sector) has reportedly asked for a thorough investigation into the incident.

Central Industrial Security Force (CSIF) told media that the passengers managed to reach the boarding gate as the frisking area was unmanned. CISF headquarters in Delhi will decide further action after probing the incident.
