Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 22: Various parts of the coast got good rainfall on Friday June 21. Most of the places also got rain on Thursday night. During the 24 -hour period ending 8.30 am on Friday, Joida and Yedwada registered six cm of rainfall, which happened to be the highest in the state.

The city and surrounding places got five cm rain. The meteorological department, in a prediction that is valid till Sunday morning, said that almost all places in coast and interior places are likely to get rood rainfall.

As outflow of water has begun at Baje dam from which water is supplied to Udupi city after the water level reached 6.6 metres on Friday evening, and also in view of the flow of water in Swarna being steady, water supply will be resumed without any break from June 23 onward, municipal commissioner said. At the same time, as the Thumbe dam has been getting good inflow, a sluice gate has been opened to maintain five metre storage level. Water supply is now going on without any interruption.

In the meantime, after a long gap this year, water flowed into Linganamakki reservoir in Shivamogga district. The water level in that dam stands at 1,744.65 feet as against 1,765.65 feet recorded on this day during the previous year.

Mother nature is still merciful unlike human beings. Please think of rainwater harvesting system. Do not waster this water!

Unless everyone takes responsibility and seriously take up rain water harvesting and water recharge ...water shortage will continue after the monsoon.
It's heartbreaking to see water overflowing on the roads as there is no place for the water to percolate to the ground.
