Mangaluru, Jun 21: Mangaluru city police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "All vehicles transporting fish, need to follow the guidelines that were enforced as per the National Green Tribunal (Southern zone) pertaining to Kerala on this issue strictly from the beginning of the next season.”
He was speaking at the police phone-in programme at the office of the Police commissioner in the city on Friday, June 21.
Police notice was served on these transporters on May 6, asking them to strictly abide by rules like adequate insulation of the vehicle and leak proofing, transportation of fish in crates in order to prevent seepage of melted ice, the spilt water and melted ice from the crates should be collected in waste water collection tanks of adequate size (50 litre capacity for vehicles carrying one tonne of fish) fitted on the vehicle.
So far, 37 fish transporting vehicles have been seized for not following the guidelines. So they need to follow all the rules and regulation as mentioned in the guidelines before the fishing season begins.

Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "High court is closely monitoring the issue of vehicles carrying excessive children. Cases have been booked on 60 vehicles and 280 goods vehicles also for carrying passengers in it.
A caller from Mannagudda complained about street vendors who are seen selling flowers in the foot path which causes inconvenience for the pedestrians. Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "We will send our officers and clear them immediately from the footpath.”
A caller from Kuthar complained about a bar and restaurant is opened recently very close to a school. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "We will check it and ask excise department to take action on it.”
A caller from Kodical cross requested about setting up barricade at Kodical cross as vehicles approach at high speed.
A caller from Kodialbail complained about vehicles being parked on the footpath from Besant College to TMA Pai Hall. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil urged the concerned officer to visit the spot and book the cases on vehicles that have been parked on the footpath.
A caller from Bejai complained about city bus conductors behaving rudely with lady passengers and senior citizens. Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "If such incident occurs anyone can send photos to the WhatsApp number 9480805300. Strict action will be taken such erring bus conductors.”
As many as 27 calls were received during the programme.
DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh, DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya and ACP traffic Manjunath Shetty were also present.
