Mangaluru, Jun 21: Four persons who were accused of attempting to kill police personnel of the special intelligence bureau a few years back were discharged by the court through a judgement delivered on Thursday, June 20.

Those who have been discharged in the case happen to be Muhammed Mallik, Praveen Pinto, Raghavendra, and Sanjay.

The police had got information that a notorious gang from Bengaluru had arrived in the city on August 8, 2009, to indulge in robbery. Police sub-inspector Prakash K, led a police team to Padavinangady. When the police spotted a car carrying the robbers near Swarnagauri Layout there and signalled the car to stop, the robbers dashed their vehicle against the police vehicle and moved ahead. The police in motor bikes chased the car, stopped it, and asked the robbers to surrender. It is said that at that time, Sardar alias Lal Bahadur, a notorious rowdy from Bengaluru, fired at the police. Police constable Sunil, returned fire in which Sardar died, it is learnt.

The police thereafter filed case of murder attempt against Muhammed Mallik, Praveen Pinto, Raghavendra and Sanjay. Judge of the third additional court here, Muraleedhar Pai, who conducted hearing in the case, concluded that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges. Therefore, he ordered release of the accused.

Advocates Asha Nayak, Dinakar Shetty, Sunil Kumble, Vinod Paul and Jeevan Kolya had argued on behalf of the accused in the case.
