Mangaluru: Abusing doctors, posting video clip in social sites - Two arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 20: In an incident which happened at the district Wenlock Hospital here on Monday June 16 when private doctors were on strike, a few people had shared video clip of a person in the background using abusive language against the doctors there for their alleged delay in handling their friend, who had suffered injuries in an accident.

The Pandeshwar police have since arrested two persons, identified as Nitin and Deekshit, relating to the incident.

The two arrested accused were produced in the court whereupon they were remanded to judicial custody.

Dhanush Shetty was injured on Monday morning after meeting with an accident near Jyothi Circle. On being taken to Wenlock Hospital, the doctors had provided first aid and suggested that he should be put through CT scan as he had suffered head injuries. But the hospital could not arrange for ambulance for about 45 minutes.

Dhanush Shetty, and his close ones, Deekshit and Nitin, who got angry at purported delay at Dhanush being attended, derided doctors there in abusive language, recorded the incident on video, and posted the same in social websites.

Relating to the incident, superintendent of the hospital, Dr Rajeshwari Devi, had filed a complaint in Pandeshwar police station.

We have a best hospital in Kinnigoly, The Concetta Hospital . Even though they dont have advanced equipment , the Staff and Doctors are very kind and helpful at any moment of day and night . Patients get almost cured because of the care and love of the staff. Even Security, Ambulance Drivers , Accounts and all departments are very co-operative. I wish other hospitals follow and learn from them .

when the actual patient regains consciousness he will wonder why his friends were shooting video, abusing doctors, using filthy language, attributing motives etc. etc. instead of quickly and quietly looking for other ways to reach help and medical attention the patient....if the friends were truly concerned about their friend, definitely they would not worsen the situation by abusing and insulting doctors...language used is bad and shame for Mangaloreans who pride themselves about their culture and politeness....

All the medical graduates pass out from Government quota should do two years of government service in rural area. They are trained with tax money.
They have enough time to make moneyin their life. Shortage of doctors thus can be filled. Hand over the degree after successful completion of two year placement.

All the iit graduates too work in rural areas and develop the villages. Health care is not restricted only to doctors . Everyone is a stakeholder. Including you!

I dont believe that a doctor can do much in rural areas without proper infrastructure where sometimes even basic cough syrup will not be available.

Procuring essentials like a weighing scale for the Primary health Centre requires paperwork where corruption could be high among Officer Babus. Doctor should be given enough opportunities to treat to the best of standards set and administrative job / Implementation of Health Schemes regarding PhC given to Public Health Managers thus creating more jobs for local people. If given enough infrastructure facilities and good salary to feed one's family, every doctor will be happy to go to rural areas!

First find out what it takes to become a good doctor even under government quota then talk about making money. To make money one does not require to choose to become a doctor., there are lot of other options. Have you seen closely how the junior doctors work at Wenlock and Lady Ghoshan Hospitals with minimum 14 to 28 hours a day with no break. They don't even have a proper rest room man. Just go and see then write your comments.

This was in cards. We cannot abuse anybody so vulgarly like a film hero what these people did is condemnable. Wenlock is the one of the leading hospitals in Karnataka and now they are giving very good service with limited resources. It happened in private hospital sometimes back. The man video recorded may now finding guilty and one TV channel even had a TV debate on this with objectionable headlines. Don't take everything granted.

Poor people will be arrested. Rich people will be protected. This is the Indian law.

Critical patients should be attended. Doctors cant give reason there is rush or no rush. Every person is important for family and friends. No fault of boys.

In hospitals, there is something called as Triage system to differentiate severity of the patients who present to Emergency Dept. For e.g. a Toothache even though severe is not life threatening whereas an Asthma attack is. In over burdened Indian hospitals, when the doctors and nurses are doing their best, it's your moral responsibility to wait your turn and not abuse them!

The doctor has done his bit in this case by initiating the treatment. If there is no ambulance or ambulance driver to take the patient to CT scan, it is an administrative issue of inadequate infrastructure and personnel. Since it is a govt. hospital, it is the state health ministry which has to answer, and not the the emergency duty doctor. What do you expect him to do? Leave the casualty and drive the ambulance?

People are misusing free availabity of internet on wrong purposes. When person's freiend is in critical condition would have arranged other way to get quick attendance. Instead he wasted time to picturise video to upload in social media. Should charge him first..for putting friend's health condition on risk.

Well.. according to the Indian law and various landmark judgements hospital has to give first aid to patient and arrange for ambulance. Wenlock hospital did that. THEY ARE SAFE. You can't demand things if they don't have the equippment or specialist doctors.

But MY PROBLEM IS THIS ... IN A COUNTRY WITH SO MANY DOCTORS AND SURGEONS... WHY NO MONEY IS SPENT BY THE COUNTRY FOR HEALTH CARE? WHY GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH BEST EQUIPMENT AND SURGEONS AND DOCTORS FROM EVERY SPECIALIZATION??!!!!!! WHY IS GOOD HEALTHCARE NOT FREE FOR EVERY CITIZEN?? WHY DO I NEED TO SPEND MONEY FROM MY POCKET FOR BASIC TREATMENT IN A PRIVATE HOSPITAL WHEN I AM A TAX PAYER???!!!!

THIS IS THE BASIC REQUIREMENT OF ANY CITIZEN OF ANY COUNTRY. RIGHT TO LIVE.

Why not arrested doctor and nurse for there negligency ?if that patient dies ? Who will take responsible? ? Seriously this is not jokes ,neglecting patient is big crime, equal to murdering a person...my opinion is police should arrest doctor and nurse.only for neglecting patient because next time it should not happen in the hospital, all poor people visit the hospital they don't know anything, what they tells believe that's it..

Eiyas , ask your local MP, MLA , why there was no ambulance . Ambulances are not driven by doctors or nurses. So no point abusing them . Mostly the ambulance driver's may have been busy with some other patient , or may have been simply loitering around somewhere. Enquiry will tell. Most often people target doctors/nurses because of the simple reason they don't talk back/ fight back, as seen in Aaj Tak video .

    Elias,
You are writing here as if doctors and nurses at Wenlock are not doing anything and keep playing volleyball. Before writing stupid comments first go and study how this hospital is managed and what kind of facilities are available to doctors to perform thier jobs. Secondly arresting doctors and nurses for what, stealing cows from someone's cowshed. There are competent authorities to take action if there is negligence on the part of doctors and nurses and patients relative or friends has no right to abuse or man handle the doctors. If you are not happy with the service go and complain to the concerned authority. Guys who created nuisance should be behind bars for 5 years.
