Udupi, Jun 20: Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) has condemned the state government for not appointing chairman for Scheduled Caste Commission since the last one and a half year.

“All other boards have president. I do not know why state government is not appointing a president. This is the last chance we are giving the chief minister. If the same kind of negligence continues, DSS will stage a protest against the government,” said DSS state general convener Mavalli Shankar addressing media on Wednesday, June 20.

Speaking at Udupi Press Club, here on Wednesday, June 19, he said it is a legislative commission. “The State government allotted Rs 1.42 crore for SC/ST in the budget. But a report says that poverty is increasing. Where has this fund gone? State government is not utilizing funds properly and is investing money on unproductive works,” he alleged.

“The government has to give proper directions on spending funds unnecessarily. The government has ordered the hostels to admit students as per the capacity. In this case, other students will be deprived from getting hostel facilities. Government should consider this issue seriously. Money is being wasted in other ways. Unemployment can be seen everywhere,” he alleged.

Shankar demanded the government to form a directorate and utilize funds through it.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, but it should be implemented effectively at nation level. Just about 6-7% of money is being investing for the development work for the SC/ST community,” he said.

He stressed on strengthening of SEP act and release more funds to the SC/ST community. The state has to be take immediate measures to distribute DC manna land, which is reserved for Dalits. Government should allot additional fund for self-employment under Ambedkar Commission and increase the annual income amount, he said.

He alleged that minister Revanna thinks that PWD is his own department. He is not allowing to SC/ST to get promotions, though there is order from the Supreme Court. As much as 117 engineers did not get promotion. The same condition is seen in 35 other departments. It is huge defect on the part of the government. Former CM Siddaramaiah is acting helpless. The government is likely to work for one particular class, Mavalli Shankar alleged.

Chandu L, state organisation convener, B K Vasanth, organisation convener of Mysuru sector, Gangadhar Adyapady, district organization convener, Mangaluru, Sunder Gujjarabettu, member of district committee, and Lokesh Padubidri, general convener, DSS, Padubidri were also present.
