Bengaluru: Water tank under construction collapses - Three people die, more than 20 rescued

Bengaluru, Jun 17: In a tragic incident, three people died when a water tank under construction collapsed at Lumbini Garden, Jogappa layout here. More than twenty people were rescued.

Eight water tanks were being constructed for a water purification unit. More than 30 workers were involved in the centring work of the building. It is gathered that the centring of the building fell all of a sudden to a depth of 80 feet.

Fire brigade personnel and local police rushed to the spot and indulged in rescue operation soon after receiving the information. Twenty people were rescued. Some more men are feared stuck under the centring. Among those who are rescued so far, the condition of three people is said to be critical.

Most of the workers in the construction are said to be based in Uttar Karnataka. A few workers from north India were also working at the spot.

The injured are admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital here. It is said that the water tank under construction belonged to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The work on eight water tank is in progress
on a 30-acre land.
