Prisoner Jumps to death from the 6th floor of sessions court premises

Mumbai, Jun 16: People gathered in Dindoshi sessions court on Saturday were in for a shock when an under trial prisoner committed suicide by jumping from sixth floor of the court building.

Twenty five year old Vikas Pawar, who is accused of child sexual abuse was brought to the sessions court for hearing. Pawar was arrested in 2015, under Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act by the Powai police for abusing a six year old school boy.

Pawar was brought by the police to courtroom no.12 at Dindoshi sessions court for hearing. As per a TOI report, Pawar's lawyer Sunanda Nadewar said "The child victim appeared before court on Saturday. He narrated the entire incident and pointed out to Pawar when asked to identify the perpetrator. The judge then gave a date for the next hearing ".
 
Once out of the courtroom, Pawar told the police escorting him that he wanted to drink water. Drinking water was available on the 6th floor of the court building and around 3 pm, the police along with Pawar entered the area. Pawar pulled out his hand from the police escort's grip and rushed over to the balcony and leaped outside. He died on the spot. He was taken to a nearby hospital and his body was sent for postmortem. 
 
Pawar was employed in a school at Powai where the sexual abuse case was reported on Dec 9, 2015. When the victims mother came to fetch the kid from school, she noticed something was wrong as the kid was not behaving normally. When asked by the mother the child said he was sexually abused in the toilet. The woman informed her husband and they approached the school management before registering a police complaint. As per police, Pawar was captured on CCTV outside the school toilet and was arrested the same night. Pawar used to live in Ghatkopar with his mother.
