Kundapur, Jun 15: “As scarcity of water is felt all over due to summer, gram panchayats should make use of the available facilities and use water with care,” said MLA B M Sukumar Shetty.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating new building worth Rs 47 lac for gram panchayat at Mullikatte junction, Hosadu village.

“We are receiving complaints every day that water does not reach people by gram panchayat facilities or water tankers. Those are indications of lapses on gram panchayat level. The Jaladhare project is implemented instead of the past Bahugrama drinking water project to prevent drinking water issues. It is a programme which identifies water sources in the respective villages and supplies water from there. If everybody who is concerned does not get alert in this direction, nobody may be able to get water in the next ten years. There are water bodies in Hosadu village. Those should be made use of properly as soon as possible to provide water,” he said.

“Hosadu gram panchayat which came into existence four years ago as a result of the division of Trasi gram panchayat has combined all the available resources and constructed this beautiful and well equipped building. It has achieved substantial progress in the last four year, secured state level awards and become a model for other gram panchayats. Its president, members and administration deserve congratulations,” he said.

Development officer Parvati welcomed. President H K Chandrashekar Poojary threw light on the way gram panchayat progressed and recollected those who helped in development works. Vice president Vandana Kharvi rendered the vote of thanks. Teacher Rajesh Padukone compered the programme.

Taluk panchayat president Shamala S Kunder, district panchayat member Shobha G Putran, Taluk panchayat member Raju Devadiga, executive officer Kiran R Padnekar, Nodal officer Niranjan Bhat, locals M N Suvarna, Sadashiva Shetty, Nagaraja Kharvi, secretary Prasad and data entry operator Shivananda Movadi were present. Former development officer Shobha and building contractor Hasainar Saheb were felicitated.
