Daijiworld Media Network - Madikeri (SP)

Madikeri, Jun 14: In an incident which happened at Balele village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district, a person shot and killed a high school teacher before turning the gun on himself.

The victim of this incident was Asha Kaveramma (50) from Balele. The man who ended his own life after killing her was Jagadish (60).

The lady teacher in question was waiting for the school vehicle at around 8.15 am on Friday near the police outpost at Balele. Jagadish, a resident of Ponnampet, fired five bullets at the teacher, as a result of which she collapsed on the spot and breathed her last. Later, the accused fired at himself inside a coffee plantation and gave up his life.

Asha Kaveramma

A student named Dinesh and a plantation worker Raju, who tried to save the teacher during the firing, were injured in the hands as the bullets hit them. Both have been seriously injured and admitted into hospital for treatment.

The police, who came to know of the incident, conducted checks. The person who used the gun is said to have been sexually harassing the teacher since long. Asha was a teacher of Lions High School at Gonikoppal. Jagadish was enamoured by the teacher. Asha was single and Jagadish did not have wife. He was sexually harassing the teacher often, and two had fought two years back on this issue, it is said.

Moreover, Asha had filed complaint against Jagadish two years back, accusing him of rape attempt. Jagadish, was in jail, had secured release on bail. The case was still being heard in the court. Jagadish thereafter began to trail the teacher in question. As she outright rejected his advances, he fired at her today morning and killed her before shooting himself dead.

A case relating to the incident was filed in Ponnampet police station.

OK...if photos are anything to believe, I trust this unrelenting man's feeling is valid. He could have been on her side for companionship for the love and not do this. Tender love can be handled differently without going to this extreme. What is this iternal need for love to culminate in sex? Companionship, respect for individual from distance and caring can work. I see a point (from Photo, she is pretty) in this man's obsession. However, I do not see sense and rational behind this senseless loss of life. What a pity and shame!!

Action should be taken on police who had filed FIR, judge and advocate who gave bail. an innocent life is lost for no fault of hers Indian courts thrive only on bail money therefore victims never get justice and criminals are encouraged to commit crimes because they know they will come out on bail. Even citisens did not take action against this dangerous criminal when he was out on bail.. sad

You may be old at 60. Niw a days 60 is not old. It is the mi dset to be checked not the biological age. We see a lad of 25 without any aim in life and a man of 75 plus enjoying life

Really tragic. The lady was killed for no reason. It is not right to intrude in anyone's life. Obsession of any thing is not good.
