Bengaluru: Raids on officials reveals huge properties - Scrutiny continues

Bengaluru, Jun 13: The officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau, who raided three government officials including a professor of Karnatak University on Wednesday claimed to have unearthed unaccounted property running into lacs of rupees. The scrutiny continued on Thursday.

Those who faced the raids are Kallappa M Hosmani, professor of Karnatak University, who had worked as registrar in the past, PWD assistant executive engineer at Joida, Uttara Kannada district, Uday D Chabbi, and mines and geology assistant engineer at Mangaluru, S Mahadevappa. Simultaneously, searches at houses and offices of relatives of the officials were undertaken.

The verifications centred around 11 spots in Dharwad, Belagavi, Davanagere, Chitradurga, and Bengaluru relating to these officials and their close ones. The officials said that the figures about the estimated assets of the officials are being worked out and will be provided in a couple of days.

Assistant engineer, S Mahadevappa, owns a duplex house with four floors at Bangaluru, a house at Chitradurga, apart from two sites in Bengaluru and three more in Chitradurga. The officials said that they have also taken into possession documents about the family owning 18 acres of agricultural land in Chikkamgaluru and Chitradurga districts. Rs 3.11 lac in cash, 2,150 US dollars, 4,800 Hong Kong dollars, Rs 6.49 lac in the form of deposits in banks and Rs 12 lac in fixed deposits were recovered. 5.5 kg silver ornaments and other items were also found. Life insurance policies were also found and checking is continuing, the sources said.

Cash of Rs 11 lac and over 200 grams of gold ornaments were recovered from Uday Chabbi, assistant executive engineer, during the raid in offices at Joida and Dandeli as well as Belagavi. The officials have also come to know about a site he owns.

Relating to Prof Hosmani, the officials have found ancestral property, land acquired by him, house at Srinagar, gold ornaments etc. They have examined documents also about the properties and different bank accounts in the name of his wife and children, sources said.
