Bengaluru: Government may do away with numerous holidays on birth anniversaries

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 27: In all likelihood, the state government may take a call on the proposal to cancel various government holidays declared over the last many years on birth anniversaries of different personalities. This issue is slated to come up for discussions at the cabinet meeting scheduled on Monday May 27.

One of the decisions the government is expected to take is pertaining grant of holidays to government employees on fourth Saturdays too like the one currently given on second Saturdays. A cabinet sub-committee headed by minister, Krishna Byregowda, had considered these issues and made recommendations to the government after deliberating on the issues concerned. It is said that this issue would be placed as an additional agenda.

The sub-committee had been formed to consider the proposal to cancel holidays given for different birth anniversaries as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. Cancellation of three casual leaves of government employees, cancellation of eight holidays given for birth anniversaries annually, and giving holidays to fourth Saturdays reportedly are contained in the report of the said sub-committee.

    Public pension for all section of the society organised and unorganised sector must be implemented. The school ( until 10th Standard) must be made free or very nominal fees , health care benifits ( direct insurance ) must be provided for those who work more than 40hours a week. Hourly based wages must be implemented and the wages must be digitalised where in the payments are made online . Any earning for pshysical works such as manual labour , farm workers , civics workers must be tax free . Government must promote hard working in the society .

    @Shashi Shetty, Santhoor,

    Shetre, no problem – your wish is my command.

    Just one problem? Please tell me who is going to pay for all this and please get the consent of every person who will pay for this.

    Once this “small” hurdle is surpassed, then India will be the heaven for everyone.

    As much as "Public" holidays, there are as many strikes ( bundhs) too....

    Charge a licence fee to take one for all related "details" costs ( police/ fire/etc )..

    This way the corporations can earn "revenue" as well control the flow of public , without any disruption to get to work!

    India can generate huge number of "service based" employment. Since many decades, India is considered as one of the lowest productivity country in the world. Every Indian of working age of 18 years to 63 years must work for at least 40 hours per week to increase the national production and productivity ( except the disabled persons).

    Annually a total of ten to twelve holidays; that is one holiday for each Faith and few Constitution based holidays are sufficient.

    I fully agree with your most sensible comments which Indian government will take heed to it. There are too many holidays which can be cut down and improve productivity of the nation.

    Why this death and birth anniversary only for Government and bank employees?. If any body demand holiday, then sanction to those employees only without salary for that day . Automatically all will be educated one by one.

    Its high time the Govt should do away with these unnecessary holidays to these already lazy and rusted Govt employees and PSU Bank employees. Half of the year either they are on strike or on leave. During working hours either they are busy discussing or away from their seat!
