Mangaluru: Coast's need for SDRF unit to be a reality soon

Mangaluru, May 27: Site has been allocated near Bajpe for the setting up of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). This unit will be entrusted with the responsibility of undertaking immediate relief and rescue measures in case of any disaster happening on the coastal stretch between the city and Karwar.

The state has been in dire need of a unit on the lines of National Disaster Response Force which operates from Bengaluru. Taking cognizance of the need, the previous sate government had sanctioned a contingent of this force to the coastal region.

A ten-acre plot has been set aside in Arasulapadav in Badaga Yekkar village near Bajpe for this purpose. This land would be handed over to the fire brigade and the process of handing over is likely to be concluded within a week, sources stated.
