Bengaluru: LS poll debacle - State JD(S) president H Vishwanath to resign

Bengaluru, May 24: H Vishwanath, president of JD (S) of Karnataka state had decided to resign from his position taking the moral responsibility for the humiliating defeat of the party in the Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to the scribes, Vishwanath said, "I will shoulder the moral responsibility of the defeat of JD (S). So I have decided to resign from the state president post. There is no change in my decision."

"Ealier itself, I had decided to resign from the position of state president of the party. However, I continued till the Lok Sabha elections on the advice of national president of the party H D Deve Gowda. So I continued till the LS elections. Now I will request him to grant me release from this position," added Vishwanath.

Reacting to the debacle in the LS polls, former PM and party supremo Deve Gowda said, "Even great leader like Indira Gandhi had tasted defeat in elections. This is not the last election. Victory and defeat are part and parcel of any election. We have to accept the verdict given by the public. We had put in our best efforts for the victory of Congress-JD(S) alliance candidate Vijayshankar in the constituency of Mysuru."
