Dharwad building tragedy - Three officials in judicial custody

Dharwad, May 23: In connection with the incident in which an under-construction building at Kumareshwara Nagar here had crashed to the ground, the police took into custody three officials of Hubballi - Dharwad city corporation. The tragedy had consumed the lives of 19 innocent persons.

Ashok Gadag, deputy director of the city corporation, city planning officer, Mukund Joshi, and DDTC, Basavaraj Hiremath, stand arrested for their lapse in permitting the construction of the building. It is said that these officials had issued clearance certificates to the building and also failed to provide satisfactory replies during the magisterial inquiry conducted by the district magistrate recently.

The trio was taken into custody on Wednesday May 22 afternoon by a team of policemen led by deputy commissioner of police, D L Nagesh. They have been remanded to judicial custody for15 days.

The said tragedy had happened on March 19, 2019.
