Kundapur: Police arrest thief with help of public

Kundapur, May 20: Public and the police joined together and caught a thief who came to steal things from the Herikudru Sri Arekallu Bobbarya Daivasthana that is situated near the highway of the taluk.

Satisha Mahadeva Naika, a resident of Mundalli, Ambarahitlu in Bhatkal taluk is the accused who has been arrested in this connection.

When the accused was trying to open the offering box of the temple using an iron rod on the early morning of Sunday, May 19, the chief priest of the temple switched on the torch light. The thief escaped from the spot. However, the locals and the temple priest searched for the thief frantically in the nearby areas. He was caught from a bush behind the temple, in which he was hiding.

The attempted theft is recorded on the CCTV camera of the Daivastana also. The accused is said to be a notorious thief and has several cases registered against him in Honnavar, Bhatkal, Kalagatagi, Manki, Ankola etc.

A case in this connection is registered in the Kundapur police station.
