Srinagar, April 24: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti demanded release of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik on the grounds that he is seriously ill.

Justifying her demand, she said Malegaon bomb blast accused Sadhvi Pragya has been set free. Hence, Malik as well as other members of Jamaat-e-Islami need to be released, she said.

Malik has been sent to judicial custody till May 24 in connection with a 2017 terror funding and conspiracy case by Delhi's Patiala House Court on April 24.

The court had sent Malik to National Investigation Agency custody. He was brought to Delhi after a court in Kashmir granted his transit remand to the NIA.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has reserved its judgment on a CBI plea for reopening three-decade-old cases in which Malik was an accused.

The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief is facing charges of kidnapping and murder, for being allegedly involved in abducting Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in 1989, and killing of four Indian Air Force personnel in 1990.

Last week, Yasin Malik’s family claimed that he was ‘seriously ill’ after he went on a hunger strike in the custody protesting his “illegal” detention.

Mufti also condemned the ‘security measures’ that is affecting the citizens of the Kashmir valley.

“Families of militants are being harassed after the encounter. The security forces are interfering in people’s livelihood. The cross LoC trade that took place through Muzaffarabad has been stopped. Also, National Highway being closed for traffic for two days in a week is affecting day to day living,” she lashed out.
