Mangaluru, Apr 22: Clarifying derogatory remarks on women made last week, MLA C T Ravi said that he only repeated the sentence which was chanted by public and never intended to defame the womanhood.

In a press meet held at the BJP election office in the city on Monday, April 22, he said, "I asked people when a person betrays his home which gave him food what should we call him? Answering my question, people gathered at the meeting chanted the controversial words and I repeated it. Intentionally I did not make any derogatory comment against women. As per my knowledge, the words uttered are common in North Karnataka and Hassan districts and there is no need to make it a big issue. When people are comfortable with such comments I do not know why Dr Jayamala is taking it so seriously. It is my request to Jayamala to tell her party leaders not to use abusive words on Prime Minister Modi and other BJP leaders.

“Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and C M Ibrahim are very well-versed in using abusive and derogatory language. In their public speeches they never give respect to Narendra Modi. Instead of teaching me about good culture, Jayamala should conduct a day-long class for them to teach them how to respect the prime minister and leaders of other parties. She compared my tongue to chappal. Now I am asking her that is she ready to compare the tongues of Congress leaders to pigs of drainage or worms?” Questioned Ravi.

When asked whether he has received the two books about culture and respect on women which were sent by Jayamala, Ravi said, "I have not yet received the books sent by Jayamala. I am ready to accept those books and think reading of those books will help me increase my knowledge. But Jayamala should take same interest to teach culture to her party leaders also.”

Speaking on Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat’s recent statement on highlighting Modi for election he said, "Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat never told not to use Narendra Modi’s name for election. He himself praised Modi in his speech at Madikeri. He just informed that BJP is not a party which supports individual worship. It only praises the good thoughts and deeds of a person. Modi is a visionary leader and BJP is highlighting his visions and thoughts for new India. Prabhakar Bhat also intended the same.”

Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Y Bharath Shetty, MLA and other leaders were present.
