Moodbidri: Unattended incense stick causes house fire, loss estimated at Rs 3 lac

Moodbidri, Apr 20: A house at Ontikatte, under the limits of town municipality here, got completely gutted in fire.

The incident came to light on the morning of Saturday, April 20 when Saleem, who lives in the adjacent house, saw the burnt house.

The house is totally destroyed in the fire and household items like TV, fans, cupboards, cloth, Rs 4,000 cash and records of the property were burnt in the mishap.

The house belonged to Sadiq, whose wife Atijamma had died 50 days ago due to illness. Since then Sadiq used to live in the house of his relatives at Kotebagilu along with his children Safa Banu and Sambreena Banu.

The electricity connection of the house was disconnected a few days ago. Sadiq, who had come to his house, was in the house till 8 pm on Friday, April 19. He had lighted an incense stick before leaving the house.

The total worth of the goods and cash gutted in the fire is estimated to be Rs three lac.
