Panaji: Election Commission directs govt to delay payment to Vedanta real estate developers

Panaji, Apr 20: The Election Commission of India instructed the government of Goa to delay payment of the second installment of Rs 9.24 crore toward compensation for land acquisition, to Vedanta real estate developers, following a complaint from Goa Congress unit.

Vedanta real estate developers belong to Shirodkar, BJP’s candidate in Shiroda assembly by-poll. He had resigned as Congress MLA from Shiroda along with another MLA Daynanad Sopte in October last year and switched over to BJP inviting by-elections in these constituencies.

In addition to late Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s name which is added in a complaint with Lokayukta regarding the sanctioning of a land deal, Shirodkar along with Goa state chief secretary are also part of the complaint on the alleged scam in a land acquisition deal in Shiroda.
