Bengaluru, Apr 20: The unexpected death of one of the most honest and efficient IPS officers from the state, Dr Madhukar Shetty, had given rise to doubts. Many had expressed the suspicion that he could have been murdered. Being an honest and strict officer, he certainly would have earned the ire of many people against whom he could have conducted investigations, the people believe.

The state government plans to order judicial inquiry into Dr Shetty's death. It has transpired that sometime back, it had formed a committee of experts to hold preliminary investigation into his death and submit a report to the government.

This committee is headed by Dr Deviprasad Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya here. Director in the department of health and family welfare, Dr Seetharam of cardio-thoracic survey department of Jayadeva Cardiology Hospital, head of the department of virology, NIMHANS, Dr V Ravi, and Dr Nagaraj of the department of pulmonary medicine, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases, have been appointed as its members. Director in the directorate of medical education would be the convener of the committee.

Dr Madhukar Shetty had breathed his last at Continental Hospital at Hyderabad on December 25 when serving as the deputy director of Sardar Vallabhai Patil National Police Academy there.
