50 lac jobs lost after note ban, youth worst hit

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) : Nearly 50 lac people in India lost their jobs between 2016-2018, a report said highlighting that the "beginning of the decline" coincided with demonetisation, although "no direct causal relationship could be established" between the trends.

The report by Azim Premji University's titled State of Working India was based on the CMIE-CPDX data that highlighted India's unemployed were mostly the youth.

"In general, women are much worse affected than men. They have higher unemployment rates, as well as lower labour force participation rates," it added.

The report revealed that unemployment, in general, has risen steadily post 2011. Both the Periodic Labour Force Survey and the CMIE-CPDX report the overall unemployment rate to be around 6 per cent in 2018, double of what it was in the decade from 2000 to 2011."

"Among urban women, graduates are 10 per cent of the working age population but 34 per cent of the unemployed. The age group 20-24 years is hugely over-represented among the unemployed.

"Among urban men, for example, this age group accounts for 13.5 per cent of the working age population but 60 per cent of the unemployed."

Besides, the report noted that "in addition to rising open unemployment among the higher educated, the less educated (and likely, informal) workers have also seen job losses and reduced work opportunities since 2016.

Its not about Unemployment but its about underemployment. In public sector we dont want unwanted employees who are inefficient, with the increase in number of graduates its a challenge for India to employee them. So there is a need to create new business and small business which can attract employees. And MUDRA has helped lakhs of people who were start ups and this is better than employment..

India did bleed a lot in the last five years with a Chaiwala Chowkidar as a PM. The damage done to the economy through Demonetisation, meddling with the RBI, Supreme Court Judges nomination, Bank NPAs increase will take a long time to be rectified. Raghuram Rajan's interview that the 140 economists asking the World body to check India's GDP calculation is a black spot on India thanks to Modi's unreliable statistics reeled out on every achievement. Post Independent India, till date, we never had an untrustworthy PM like Modi. Enough is Enough.

Since 2015 there's been absolute decline in job growth.
Demonetization was forced when masses are absolutely ignorant about alternate financial operations and
Complicated GST with 300% increase in compliance burden has added to the woes of small industry and self employment.
Income tax raids and terror attack prove that purpose of demonetization is failed completely.
If you don't want to except the facts then it's your wish, but facts have to be told, whether people like it or not.

Actually the "report"does not include the new gen e-commerce ventures flourishing in India since 2016. Companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra have provided lakhs of jobs in Metro cities as well as in tier 2 and tier 3 towns of our country. There is no mention of these jobs both in logistics or deliveries. Companies like Swiggy, Zomato and Foodpanda have caught everyone's imagination and again, hundreds of youth have joined the delivery bandwagon in some 60 add cities and towns in India. The delivery boys manage a decent salary every month. Sadly there is no mention of this. Lakhs of our youths are managing deliveries and are earning reasonably well, more important on their own feet.

Lastly the two big daddies - OLA and UBER, nope there is no mention of the lakhs of jobs and entrepreneurs created by these two logistics cab hailing apps and growth of this sector in India.
India is seeing delivery services and service sector, hospitality etc growth stories which do cover here. Also I presume there is no mention of Chowkidaars and Pakoda makers too. Sad.

Those saying foundation being made, don't know what they are talking, when you have money stuffed in your accounts, you will not understand somebody else's problems. Leave your ignorant attitude and accept that wrong has been done. By providing fake data of lower inflation and higher growth, his wave will go away but ordinary citizens will perish under the tsunami of poverty, due to bad economic decisions made.
