Mangaluru Apr 15: Dakshina Kannada district is geared up for the upcoming Lok Sabha election which is just a few days away. Security has been beefed up ahead of the election within the city police commissionerate and district police limits.

Addressing media here on Monday, April 15, police commissioner Sandeep Patil said, "There are 883 polling booths within the Mangaluru city police commissionerate in which 220 are critical booths and 663 are normal booths. In the four constituencies in Mangaluru city police commissionerate, 93 are identified as vulnerable, 501 intimidators has been identified at the 220 critical booths and preventive cases have been booked,”

“Out of 220 critical booths, 156 booths will be guarded by Central Armed Forces, while rest of the booths will be manned by micro observers and media observers. Pertaining to election security, 2 DCP's, 7 DySP\ACP, 16 PI, 37 PSI, ASI 79, 1,500 HC/PC/Home Guard, 2 Central Armed Force platoons , 8 KSRP, and 12 CAR platoons will be deployed within Mangaluru police commissionerate,” he added.

"Preventive cases have been booked against 430 criminals within the city limits, while 17 rowdies have been deported. As many as 21 check posts have been set up, which include 10 static surveillance team and 11 police check posts. So far Rs 28,25,295 has been seized in the district. Three Representation of People Act case has been booked for the violation of model code of conduct,” he informed.

"Heavy security will be beefed up during the mastering and D-mastering on April 17 and also security will be tightened at the strong room after the elections, For the first time 1,500 kits will be distributed among police personnel who are deployed for election duties. The kit carries two biscuit packs, shaving kit, candle, match box, tooth brush, tooth paste, and mosquito repellant cream,” Sandeep Patil concluded.
