Udupi: EC officials, district admin to keep an eye on vehicles on Apr 18

Udupi, Apr 14: Deputy commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has warned vehicle owners not to violate election code of conduct by providing free transport facilities for voters on April 18, the polling day.

Speaking at a meeting with District Private Bus Association, Auto Rickshaw Owners Association and Taxi Drivers Association here at DC office on Sunday, April 14, Korlapati said, "On April 18, action would be taken against those offering free transport in support of a particular party or a candidate. It will be considered as a violation of election code of conduct. Those vehicles carrying voters exceeding the limit will be seized and the license of such drivers would be cancelled. Owners and drivers of seized vehicle would be booked under the Motor Vehicles Act," the DC warned.

“On the polling day the vehicle drivers must carry all the necessary documents. All the vehicles must be parked 200 metres away from the polling booth. Auto rickshaw and taxi stations coming within 200 meters from the polling booth must be temporarily closed. Also, the vehicles using any symbols, stickers or any such actions that violate the code of conduct would be dealt sternly," the DC cautioned.

“The rules apply to all the vehicles including private ones. Voters too have been asked to inform about those violating election code of conduct by various means. They can utilize Cvigil app or toll free number 1950 to inform about any such violations,” she informed.

The drivers of private vehicles on election duty must cast their votes by using EDC provided by the district administration.

Additional deputy commissioner Vidya Kumari, regional transport officer Ramakrishna Rai and representatives of vehicle associations were present.
