After a tree fell across state high way between Puttur and the city, traffic was thrown out of gear. Some electric poles near Vittal got uprooted, resulting in power outages in the region.

Lightning inflicted damages to the house of Batrapady Sundar Naik at Kodippady. A dog that was sleeping in front of the house died on the spot. A woman and two children, who were inside the house at the time, luckily escaped unhurt.

Places like Venoor,, Uppinangady, Bellare, Ujire, Naravi, Dharmasthala, Beltangady, Guruvayanakere, Kadaba, Sullia, Bantwal and Punjalkatte received good rains. Uppinangady area received high velocity wind along with rain, causing a number of trees to fall. Power supply was disrupted in the region as a result. Some of the areca nut trees which got snapped and fell to the ground at Kote in Uppinangady and Nekkilady fell on electric cables and resulted in snapping of power supply. Fallen trees in Biliyoor region reportedly damaged houses and resulted in injuries to some.

Some areas within Udupi district like Karkala, Hebri, Siddapur, Kollur, Vandse etc got rain with lightning and thunder, whereas Udupi city got drizzle. On account of strong wind, trees fell to the ground at Malebettu, Karkala.

The meteorologists have predicted that the region will continue to experience rain coupled with thunder, lightning and strong wind for two more days on account of sea breeze blowing towards the shore.

We need the rains very badly as Mangalore city and surrounding places are short of water in every front right now. I do not know what will be the situations in the coming days if rains do not come on time. Some of the comments by some readers is based mostly on election which has nothing to do with this rain, lightening, and thundering.
