Bengaluru: Collegium recommends Bombay HC Justice A S Okha as Karnataka CJ

Bengaluru, Apr 11: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the name of senior judge of Bombay high court (HC), Justice Abhay Srinivas Oka, to the post of the chief justice (CJ) of Karnataka HC.

The collegium headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, took a decision to make this recommendation. The recommendation has been forwarded to the law ministry of the union government and the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President of India will take a final decision in the matter.

Karnataka HC CJ Dinesh Maheshwari was promoted on January 15 this year as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Oka, born on May 25, 1960, secured his LLB and LLM degrees from Bombay University. He began his law practice in 1983 as junior to his father, Srinivas Oka. In 2003, he was appointed as additional judge of Bombay High Court and he was made permanent judge of that HC in 2005.
