Mangaluru: Summer vacation - railways to run special train to Bandra

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 25: In order to handle the rush of passengers during the summer vacation, the department of railways will be running special train No 09009/09010 between Mangalore Junction and Bandra terminal stations.

This weekly train will leave Bandra terminal every Tuesday night beginning April 16 till June 4 at 11.55 pm and reach Mangalore Junction station at 7.45 pm the next day. The weekly Mangalore Junction - Bandra terminal train No. 09010 will leave Mangalore Junction till June 5 every Wednesday at 11 pm and reach Bandra the next day at 7.30 pm.

These trains will halt at Karwar, Murudeshwar, Bhatkal, Mookambika Road (Byndoor), Kundapur, Udupi and Suratkal stations in coastal Karnataka.

In the meantime, Mangalore Junction-Mumbai Express train No. 12133 and Mumbai-Mangalore Junction No. 12134 have been partially cancelled from Suratkal and Mangalore Junction because of doubling of railway tracks between Jokatte and Thokoor stations from March 22 to 26. On the arrival of this train at 1 pm on Friday from Mumbai, Konkan railways transported the passengers to Mangaluru by two buses.

Mangalore trains rightfully deserve a Vistadome Coach too just like Goa Jan Shatabdi. It will be an awesome experience.

This train does not have !AC. You said "Mangalore trains rightfully deserve a Vistadome Coach too just like Goa Jan Shatabdi". Yes, good thing. But, here summer special does not mean a better train, but an additional train. Not only that, since I travelled in summer specials, I can say here, even during the running of train, these trains are given step motherly treatment, since, railway does not want interruption in Rajdhani and other long distance trains. Hence, they generally, cannot reach on time.

Ahmed, Mangalore : I hope you remember it was built due to the dedicated work and support of Mr. George Fernandes. Otherwise it would have been in files for many more years. and Mr. Fernandes was also a part of NDA government.

In all summer trains, there is a catch that the ticket fare is priced 25% higher than normal fare. Secondly, some concessions including senior citizen concession is withdrawn.. The fare from Bandra to Mangalore comes about Rs 660 in sleeper class, whereas in Mathsyaganda, the combined senior citizen husband and wife, it is around Rs. 610. AC 3 tier, the fare is 1750, but in usual trains, in that amount a senior citizen couple can travel. Still, considering the summer rush and bus fare during the period, it is very nice.
