Moodbidri: Marathon and walk for harmony held to create awareness on voting

Moodbidri, Mar 25: District level marathon competition and walk for harmony by senior citizens were held here on Sunday morning, March 24 to create awareness about voting in upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The race in the cooperation of Alva’s Foundation was held in the leadership of district administration, district sweep committee and the department of youth empowerment and sports from Swarajya maidan.

Fr Gomes of Mulki church who inaugurated the programme said that voting is real democracy. “Democracy can be strengthened by voting,” he said. 1,250 people including representatives of groups and associations took part in the race and walk for harmony for 18 kilometers in categories of children below 16 years and above 16 years.

Children below 16 years began race from Swarajya maidan and proceeded via road in front of Hanumanta temple, Jain pete, Alangar, Kodyadka road and returned to Swarajya maidan. Children above 16 years began from Swarajya maidan main road and proceeded via Hanumata temple main road, old police station, Jyothinagar, Mahaveera College, Kodagallu, Kotebagilu, Jain Pete, Alangar, Kodyadka road and returned to Swarajya maidan. Adult people took part in walk from Swarajya maidan main road till thousand pillar Basadi.



Winners in marathon for boys above 16 years were Shashidhar B L, K Hanumesh, Prashanth Kumar M H, Basavaraja Neelappa Gody and Sathish H M. All of them are students of Alva’s.

Winners among boys below 16 years were Anjuman (Government high school, Badaga Ekkar), Bharamappa B N, Raghu A Lamani, Dasharatha and Srajan (students of Alva’s).

Winners in girls’ category were Chaitra N C, Pranamya N, Vindya N, Pavitra H K and Ankita B I (all students of Alva’s).

Dakshina Kannada chief executive officer, Sweep nodal officer Dr Selvamani, Police commissioner Sandeep Patil, ACP Srinivas Gowda, tahsildar Sudarshan, Alva's Foundation president Dr M Mohan Alva, Sweep secretary Sudhaker, Taluk federation president Girish Shetty and Taluk physical education officer Shivananda Kaikini were present. Youth empowerment and sports department deputy director Pradeep D’ Souza welcomed. Taluk assistant director Lilly Pais proposed vote of thanks. Sports director Pravin Kumar compered the programme.
