Udupi: Like 'milk and honey' - Pramod Madhwaraj dons shawl with Congress-JD(S) symbols

Udupi, Mar 22: Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, who is all set to fight the Lok Sabha elections on JD(S) ticket even though he is a Congressman, on Friday March 22 appeared in public wearing a shawl that carried the symbols of both the Congress and the JD(S).

Madhwaraj visited the Congress Bhavan on Friday night after he was reportedly chosen by the coalition partners Congress and JD(S) as the candidate to face BJP's Shobha Karandlaje in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency.

"Being the candidate representing the coalition, I am contesting as a JD(S) candidate on behalf of Congress. As candidate of the coalition parties, I have brought together the symbols of both the parties in one shawl. No one has worn a shawl like this ever. I shall be wearing it till April 18 (day of polling in Karnataka). I am tired of answering questions on the party symbols," he told reporters outside Congress Bhavan, adding, "Congress and JD(S) are going to blend like milk and honey in Udupi."

He further said that he was already an aspirant for the Congress ticket, and hence according to the coalition deal, had agreed to fight on JD(S) ticket. "The people in the two districts should elect an MP who works for them. In the entire country, I am the first one to get this unique opportunity. This decision (to field him) has been taken to safeguard Congress' presence in the district, and if I win, I will do my duty in good faith.

"I will tour the two districts (Udupi and Chikkamagaluru) in the next two days and on March 25 I will file my nomination in the presence of leaders from both parties," he added.

Pramod Madhwaraj then visited the residence of AICC member Amrith Shenoy, who had opposed the party's decision to offer Udupi-Chikkamgaluru seat to JD(S), in order to pacify him. Shenoy reportedly told Madhwaraj about his dissatisfaction over the arrangement, but expressed his happiness with his candidature. He reportedly pointed out that Madhwaraj had not attended recent programmes and was instead with Kumaraswamy, and did not participate in protests against the centre either. Nevertheless, Shenoy wish him luck and expressed hopes that he would win.

Pramod Sir is very good politician. But ground reality is different. In Udupi & Mangalore majority people will vote for Modi and not to candidates. Hard to digest but its reality.

Symbol is a must to win elections without party symbol the so called big leaders contesting as independents have lost the election, for madhwaraj to win he needs the Congress symbol otherwise it is very difficult to win under jds symbol see the past record of JDS in coastal region.

This time congress is getting its electoral equation right by fielding most deserving and popular candidates - Pramod & Mithun Rai are likely to romp victory due to their all round personality, humanitarian work and getting along with all communities

Shobha & Nalin now are surely heading for 14 years of vanavasa, at least Shobha would have her paramore with her.....aging toothless bear !!! and nalin god knows what will happen to him.

I am sure being intelligent and well educated people of Mangalore/Udupi/Chikmagallur, they would choose right candidates. Kudos to congress team for making right choices

A big doubt boss. Its an election to select the PM of India , not a Panchayat election to fight on local issues. Public will vote from their leader , irrespective of who the local candidate is. Moreover public in Ktaka and DK are miffed with Cong alliance with JDS. Also a victory or loss of Nalin Kumar makes no difference to the people in DK. Thats the logic.

recently JDS leader CM Kumara swamy told that Coastal People does not have Knowledge. even in the budget he considered only few district of his own constituency & neglected coastal. now he has destroyed our coastal congress party by successfully allotting the Udupi LS seat to JDS. these are all shows that he can do whatever he want on coastal region. this is the right time to ask our congress leader why they given udupi seat to jds party. I am really disappointed by this development. congress party changed its policy I am also watching its leaders statement on pulwama attack & proof politics including recent pitroda statement. they are not worried about the safety of this country, they only busy in blame game.

please print the symbol of all 3 party JDS, Cong, BJP so it will be a good gesture of harmony of politics. however, sad thing is there is no congress party in this election. from 1971 we have seen congress party symbol in udupi elections. but this time it disappeared. then why congress party workers & office required in udupi. this is really shame for congress leaders. this is insult for congress workers.

His Clout is only limited to Udupi nor far from Malpe, assembly constituency, not beyond that. Like he said he still is Yet to tour the Loksabha constituency. Congress doesn't have a single MLA in that whole Belt . Chickmangalore is a formidable fort of BJP. Don't want to mention muxh about BJP,s strength in Coastal Udupi belt.

With this he will loose his identity as a Congressmen in Udupi whcih will further help in Congress Decimation in Udupi.

At the outset, while it looks like a most-unique idea or canny political strategy to attempt a successful landing against-all-odds by cruising at both:
    HIGH-ALTITUDE, Viz., JDS (Just-for-DeveGowda -&-Sons-&-Grandsons party)
    UNDER-WATER, Viz., Congress-I.
Reputed AICC member Amrith Shenoy (Udupi & Chikkamagaluru), himself admitted that this fat-multi-billionaire was always hobnobbing with BJP and never did an iota of work for the most-helpless people, forget any relief or major Infrastructure, not even a single good, affordable, speciality hospital in the entire district!
While the Central give every MP a massive grant, not sure if the Manipal/Konkani lobby put a brake in Udupi & Chikkamagaluru.
Win or Defeat, the most-controversial, one-of-the-richest, pseudo candidates from Karnataka election will be challenged 100% in the courts, since the constitution/EC, considers it illegal to seek, ask or beg or buy votes, simultaneously, on more than one party symbol!
And the crooked, escapist, Billionaire MP candidate, often called as a Pappu clone, one of Rahul Gandhi’s key cartel members in South India, is already “recorded in-action”, on many ‘other’ aspects.
Meanwhile, considering the various, slimy deals of this decade, I am sure his most-precious collection of super-cars & prime assets, will be used by all ..
Pray God, let the unaccounted-fortune of all our ‘elected-leaders’, transfer to the most-helpless masses.
