Bengaluru: No grace marks for second PU Biology paper

Bengaluru, Mar 19: The department of pre-university education has clarified that no grace marks will be given for Biology paper of second PU examinations that was held recently, as no questions out of the syllabus are asked in the examination.

Giving the clarification on the matter in a press conference in the city, P C Jaffer, director of PU department said, "Students and parents had urged the department to give grace marks in the subject of Biology saying that out of the syllabus questions were asked as well as the pattern of questions was changed in the examination that was held on March 14. The committee that was setup to investigate into the matter has submitted a detailed report. The questions that were asked from the NCERT (The National Council of Educational Research and Training) syllabus itself. So it is not possible to give grace marks."

"In the biology question paper of second PU examination, questions were asked for a maximum score of 105, including multiple choice questions. The students had to answer the questions for only 70 marks. Knowledge-based questions for 46 marks, skill-based questions for 11 marks and reasoning questions for 48 marks were asked in the examination. Certain questions were asked indirectly instead of directly asking them. However, no out of syllabus questions were asked," said Jaffer.

In total, 32 students in various subjects were debarred from the examinations. Last year 15 students were debarred. In 2013, 195 students were debarred. Clue of the involvement of a student in uploading the duplicate question paper of Kannada examinations on social media is unearthed. CCB police did not conduct any inquiry to prevent harming the student from writing the examinations. Once the examinations are completed, the concerned student will be subject to inquiry.
